Within the belief that suicide is generally preventable, the mission of The Samaritans is to help reduce the incidents of suicide in Rhode Island through greater access to information and resources. To achieve this mission, The Samaritans recognizes that suicide prevention is a process involving many community resources. As an agency that is not a licensed health care facility, The Samaritans believes its role within the suicide prevention process works best when volunteers, those left behind by suicide and other volunteer and professional stakeholders step forward to:

Hotline Volunteer
Student work study/interns will provide supportive services and raise awareness of our programs including our suicide prevention Hotline/Listening Line and Safe Place support group, youth and teen education and general community education programs. Additional assistance may be provided with social media, including our website, constant contact newsletter and Facebook page as well as with our Forget-Me-Not Gallery or other administrative duties as needed.

- Approximate # of Hours/Week: 4-10
- Required Days/Times of the Week: Any days and times (flexible)
- Semesters this position is available for: Fall 2016 (September - December 2016); Spring 2017 (January - May 2017); Entire Academic Year (September 2016 - May 2017)
- This position is not available for second semester seniors, as significant training time is required before volunteering.
