Classroom Mentor
As a classroom mentor, you'll provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of learners who require help in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential. You will work with a range of learners, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages. Additionally, you would provide support within the school whenever needed; lunchroom, office, recess duty, etc.

- Your tasks are likely to include:
- Collaborating with staff to identify learners who would benefit from mentoring;
- Helping learners who are underperforming in their subjects, either on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom or within lessons;
- Supporting learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities;
- Networking with other classroom mentors, teachers and relevant professionals and individuals, e.g. School Social Worker, Psychologist, etc. to help students address barriers to learning;
- Assist classroom teacher, office staff or other school staff in office duties, phone calls, photocopying, computer lab assistance, etc.
- Assisting with lunch time duties, recess duties, arrival and dismissal duties
- Spanish speaking a plus
- Collaborating with staff to identify learners who would benefit from mentoring;
- Approximate # of hours/week: up to 20
- Required days/times of the week: Flexible during the hours of Monday- Thursday 7:40am-3pm; Fridays 7:40am-1:30pm
- This position is available for the entire academic year (September 2017- May 2018)
